GENERATING ENERGY FROM WASTE COOKING OIL
It has long been recognized that using waste cooking oil to produce electricity is more efficient than using it to produce bio-diesel for transport. However, until now the fuel produced from waste cooking oil has been incapable of powering electricity generation reliably. Living Fuels has now solved the problem by removing the impurities from the oil and Living Power has provided the proven technology to take advantage of this innovation.
This technology allows REG Bio-Power to build power stations of 6 to 10MW to provide green electricity into the national grid. Through a tri-party power contract between the UCO producer, Living Power and a green energy supplier customers can buy green electricity which has been produced using their waste cooking oil. This procedure is called tolling. Tolling is ideal for multi-site companies such as restaurant chains who produce used cooking oil but probably don’t require enough electricity on any site to warrant a genset. Living Power can calculate how much electricity would be produced from the amount of oil collected and this amount can be built into the green power supply contract. This allows multi-site companies to fulfil their corporate and environmental responsibilities by using green electricity.
